Welcome back and happy Foodie Freebie Monday! If you’ve visited before, you may notice something different — Joelen’s Culinary Adventures has received a fresh facelift. I moved away from a busy, “cutesy” layout with many widgets and photos in favor of a cleaner, more modern and polished design. Take a look around, check the updated left sidebar for useful info, and enjoy following the culinary adventures I continue to have and share. I always appreciate feedback, so please tell me what you think and offer any suggestions for further improvement.
This week’s Foodie Freebie is a piece of cookware I consider essential for every kitchen: a cast iron skillet. Well cared for, cast iron lasts for decades and even generations, delivering reliable performance and excellent results for family meals. I’m offering one lucky reader a cast iron skillet — a timeless tool that might become a family heirloom and be passed down to future foodies.
For cast iron, I turn to Lodge. Although not based in Chicago, Lodge is a trusted American maker with a long history and a strong reputation for durable, well-made cookware. The company has produced cast iron for over a century, and many Lodge pieces remain in service through multiple generations. If your family owns a well-loved skillet that’s been handed down, there’s a good chance it might be Lodge-made.
Nestled alongside the Cumberland Plateau of the Appalachian Mountains is the town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee. From this small community comes some of the finest cast iron cookware in the world. Lodge Cast Iron began producing cookware during the first presidential term of William McKinley, and many pieces made over 100 years ago are still used today.
Today, Lodge remains family owned and operated, offering an extensive selection of quality cast iron cookware: Dutch ovens, a wide range of skillets, deep fryers, kettles and more. Lodge also makes durable outdoor cookware, including camp Dutch ovens and combo cookers suited for open-fire cooking.
For more than a century, Lodge has crafted cookware built to last, and pieces often remain in kitchens for generations. Choose Lodge Cast Iron Cookware, and you choose a friend that can last well beyond a lifetime.
