Eating Out on Weight Watchers: The Henry’s Kale Salad.
Instead of celebrating Mother’s Day on Sunday, we waited until Monday so the whole family could get together for lunch. We met at The Henry, a newer addition to Sam Fox’s restaurant group located at the corner of 44th Street and Camelback.
As a prudent Weight Watchers member, I checked the menu online before going. The Henry describes its food as “simple, yet hearty,” offering appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrées, with weekend breakfast items as well. There are options to suit many tastes.

I chose The Henry’s Kale Salad. A recent review in Phoenix Magazine praised it, noting the mix of chopped kale, thinly sliced apples, chunks of cheddar, clementine segments, bacon bits and toasted almonds, all tossed in a lemony vinaigrette. I added grilled chicken to make the salad more filling.
The rest of the family ordered a variety of dishes — pasta, sandwiches, burgers and fries. None tempted me much, though I tried a bite of Rod’s tortellini and a piece of Mom’s corned beef; both were very good.

The salad’s balance of flavors and textures felt light yet satisfying. My husband, who usually dislikes salads, surprised me by enjoying it: he kept reaching over for forkfuls and even finished the remaining portion after I was done.
The Henry does not publish nutritional information, so the exact numbers aren’t available. Based on the ingredient mix and portion size, I estimate the salad (with chicken) is roughly 400 calories, or about 10 Points Plus. I’ve maintained my weight loss for several years and don’t actively track points anymore, so this was just a rough guess.
How do you handle tracking when you eat out at places that don’t provide nutritional information?
Because we were celebrating Mother’s Day, we ordered a couple of desserts to share: croissant bread pudding and blueberry buttermilk pie. Full from the salad, I limited myself to small tastes of each, which was satisfying. The bread pudding was my favorite and worth the indulgence.
